Val brought her finished quilt top to quilting this week. She's the one holding her glasses. Isn't it wonderful? As you can see a lot of the blocks have been made with the use of the sewing machine and some are made by hand. Below are a couple of photographs showing the handwork on two of the blocks. This type of work is known as Broderie Perse.
The 'picture' is cut out from a piece of fabric and sewn on to a background with a buttonhole stitch. Thread colour is changed as work progresses from colour to colour.
