We're not long back from Canberra. It's been a sad week. Joan (Anton's mum) died quite suddenly. She had been unwell for a few years but the end came very suddenly and unexpectedly. Greer read 1 Corinthians 13 at the funeral and it perfectly described this special woman. Freya and Liliane will miss their 'other' Grandmother. At grace each night, Liliane (who is two) would throw her arms in the air and shout "We're a family!", then remember Oma wasn't at the table and become confused and sad. Joan's photograph was brought near the table where she could see her. My heart went out to the wee soul - as I knew her 'family' would slowly reduce in size as each of us returned to our homes.
David and I arrived home Sunday night - just feel we're starting to function again. Not only saying 'Goodbye' to Joan but to Anton, Greer and the girls who are heading off to Singapore on Thursday for three years. Keep reminding myself it's a much shorter flight than the one to London but it's still a long way. Well gone are the days where families lived near one another and of course David and I haven't a leg to stand on having left Scotland and all our respective families when we were teenagers!
