Last week, the suburbs in Brisbane were hit with heavy rain which caused millions of dollars worth of damage and flooding. Our friends Liz and Peter live in a Queenslander (house on stilts) and as they have space beneath the house, store quite a few things there. Unfortunately, their home was one of the homes which were flooded. A lot of damage - their lawnmower, washing machine, fridge - amongst other things were destroyed.
We were more fortunate, in that, although we had heavy rain, we didn't have too much damage - just the driveway which became a bit of a river. David's had the bobcat in the last few days working on creating some culverts etc to try and guide water away better - should it happen again.
On the positive side, our tank's full!!! Only second time in the last seven years that we've lived here. We don't get town water here and rely on our rainwater tank which holds 20,000 gallons when full.
Liz's parents went down to Brisbane to help in the clean up and brought a lot of stuff (that had been stored beneath the house) home to wash!
