Went to Noosa for a couple of days. We had a great time relaxing by the pool, reading, sewing - me sewing, eating, drinking...things that you do when you're up at Noosa - the "Med" in Australia as my sister Amanda said. Thankfully we didn't go this week which is Schoolies week - the week when all the 'children' who have just completed their secondary school studies head to the beaches to celebrate. There were no celebrations for my children all those years ago, no siree - we're from Scottish stock! It was off to do some cotton chipping - up before the sunrise to work up and down the cotton rills in excruciatingly hot temperatures. That's a real introduction to the end of school life.
But back to Noosa. Thank goodness we aren't folk who adore lying on the beach - the headland opposite was on fire and although the smoke added to the atmosphere, it did take some of the edge off the place.
Noosa has a lot of problems with the sand not staying put and they have to periodically shift it from one end of the beach to the other. Actually they may have to pump it out of the sea itself and spread it back on to the beach. It's such a shame - it is such a beautiful bay and nature will just not behave itself. Ahh weel - as we walk up and down the boardwalks, we can remember who really is in charge here.
And talking of boardwalks, the wind was so fierce on Monday, we could no longer see the boardwalks. It really was quite unbelievable - a very strong north westerly blowing sand off the beach towards the hotels and the main street. This together with the heat and smoke reminded me of how very difficult it is to tame this place.
These are the beautiful Glasshouse Mountains which we see on our way to Noosa. Touch surreal and Lord of the Ringsy...
On our way home, Stopped off at The Poet's Cafe in Montville for lunch - the heat!!! Back up the hills, past a number of bushfires to our own wee place. "Check the rain gauge!" I called out to David as we drove in. Half a ml! Hauled in the cases and took ourselves out to our poor scorched garden. Don't quite know where to start - pot plants are watered and David's brought some water up from the creek but it's a slow job to get this garden watered. Dear God, please send us some rain. Amen.
