FRIDAY QUILTING GROUP

Yesterday was the final get-together (for the year) of my Friday Quilting Group which meets once a month at Robyn's.  Folk come from as far as New South Wales!  A medal to you Meg.  Jackie comes all the way from the Gold Coast and dear Bonnie and Delia come up from Brisbane - all three allowing at least 3 hours each way for the journey.  Betty, Lyn and I come from out of town leaving Robyn and Rhonda the only ones from Toowoomba!

Most of the morning was spent looking at the lovely quilts the ladies are working on.  Jackie hasn't been for a while because of knee surgery so she was very keen on seeing what everyone was working on.   Some photos...

MOSES TWO

As you can see, the work on this quilt is really quite amazing.  The top border portrays the promised land and the bottom the soujourn in the desert.  I have put up on Moses, one of the plagues but Robyn has incorporated them all into the quilt.  If you have time Robyn and you would like to make any comments in the comment section here, please do.  At quilting yesterday, I noticed Robyn working on some more "people"!  She has just begun JOSEPH!   

MOSES

Another quilt that Robyn entered in the Brisbane Quilt Show.  Again, hand appliqued and hand quilted.  I did try and put this up the other day, but I think I overdid the photos and the programme siezed up on me!  Will split the photos into two posts.

  

KERRIE'S JANE AUSTEN QUILT

These are some photos of Kerrie's Jane Austen Quilt.  Isn't it just beautiful?  Kerrie has worked on this quilt "on and off!" for about 10 years.  All the material in the diamonds are different.  Everythings is hand-done - joining of diamonds, applique, hand-quilting.  It really is magnificent.  You can visit the Jane Austen website and view the quilt that Kerrie was inspired by at www.jasa.net.au/quilt.htm.

 

   

 

 

ROBYN'S WARATAHS

 

Here's a photograph Robyn sent me of her beautiful WARATAH quilt.  The waratah is a native flower here in Australia and the floral emblem of New South Wales.  As you can see Robyn has varied her waratah design and has interspersed them with butterflies.  The work in this quilt is enormous - all qpplique, joining of the diamonds and quilting was done by hand.

QUILTERS

 

Off to Brisbane today (to the Queensland Quilt Show) together with a few of my quilting friends from the quilting group I attend on Wednesdays. Two members of the group Robyn Ginn and Kerrie Klan are both to be awarded prizes tomorrow.  We're heading down today for a day "in town" and a meal out in the evening and then an early start at the Quilt Show tomorrow. 

Robyn (who was recently awarded the Order of Australia Medal for service to the arts of quilting and needlecraft) has three quilts entered in the competition - her beautiful quilt MOSES, her TILE QUILT and her beautiful Japenese inspired multi-appliqued quilt of waratahs. 

 As with all Robyn's quilts most of the work is all worked by hand.

Kerrie has been awarded a prize for her JANE AUSTEN quilt - again this quilt has been made by hand and hand-quilted too.  It is a stunning quilt.  Hopefully I will be able to get some photos to put up on the blog in the next day or so.

Greer, Anton and their two wee girls Freya and Liliane have just left after spending 3 weeks with us.  While they were here, Greer made the girls a quilt each.

QUILT TOP

 

Just finished the top for this quilt on Wednesday.  The central four blocks show a full abstract of the flower in the pink material blocks.  Apart from sewing the borders and blocks together by machine, everything else was done by hand.  The idea and help came from dear friend Robyn Ginn.  Now...to quilt...

  

 

SEWING AT LIKULIKU

This is one of the individual bures that Likuliku guests stay in.  Likuliku also has bures which are built on the lagoon itself.  I'll post a photo of them tomorrow.  We just loved our little Fijian hut and after breakfast each day, I would do about an hour of sewing!  The bowl at the bottom of the steps is filled with water and has flowers floating in it.  This bowl was for us to rinse our feet in after coming back from the beach!
